Question: I have been offered a position at Queensland University in Queensland Australia (home town) and I have also been offered a sporting scholarship in the USA. If I was to take the latter option, would I have to sit the SAT test even though I'm eligable for the Australian Uni.

Answer: Whether you need to take the SAT would be up to the University in the U.S. You would need to contact them to see what they require.

Question: I am a U.S. citizen living in Venezuela. I would like to prepare myself to enter a university in the U.S. The high school I attend in Caracas teaches English as a second language. I would like to know if you can recommend some courses I can take here or in the U.S. to prepare myself.

Answer: You may have to take the TOEFL test is if English is not your first language or if you are not fluent in English. If you are confident in your English you can take the TOEFL without taking any prep classes. If the university determines you are not fluent enough in English the university may admit you with the stipulation you take extra English courses at the university.

Question: Can I take SAT exams in Egypt?

Question: I have seen that many universities do not require SAT for international students. Is it really necesary to take the SAT exam?

Answer: Thank you for your question. If you only plan on applying to those universities that do not require the SAT then there is no need to take that exam. However, it is always good to apply to a minimum of 5 universities that may offer the course of study you are looking for. If you only apply to schools that do not require the SAT you may limit yourself too much and may not find the courses you really want.

Standardized Tests for United States University Undergraduate Admission

The most used standardized test for admission to U.S. universities are either the SAT or the ACT. Students should consult the website of the universities in which they are interested to see what admission tests are required.

1. The SAT Reasoning Test - The best-known of these admission tests consists of three sections:

· Critical reading: Reading comprehension and sentence-completion ·

Mathematics: Basic geometry and algebra II ·

Writing: Multiple choice questions, which test grammar and usage, and a short essay.

2. SAT Subject Tests(formerly known as SAT IIs) are one-hour multiple-choice tests. Students select from among 20 subjects in the areas of Math, Literature, History, Science and Foreign Languages. Generally up to 3 SAT Subject Tests may be required and supplement the SAT Reasoning Test results. They may be required to meet specific entrance requirements. Check the website of your university of interest to determine specific test requirements.

To Register for the SAT online Go to www.collegeboard.com

3. The American College Test (ACT)is an alternative to the SAT Reasoning Test, accepted by most universities. It was devised to measure students’ competence in completed coursework, while the SAT evaluates mathematical and verbal reasoning abilities. It consists of four subject tests: English, mathematics, reading, and science, plus an optional essay-writing test. The math component of the ACT includes trigonometry, a topic that is not included in the SAT Reasoning Test. Check the website of your university of interest to determine specific test requirements. To Register for the ACT online Go to www.act.org

All the best to you.

Question: do you think that with a GRE score of 1080 combined and a 5 on my essays I will be able to get a place at a top gradute planning school in the US?

Answer: Hi,

Thank you for your question. The following excerpt was taken from the GRE Explorer website: http://www.greexplorer.com/Average-Score.html

What is an acceptable score?

What Is a Good GRE Score? There is no official minimum. In theory, any score above 550 for verbal and 700 for Quantitative can be considered acceptable. In the event you get a lower score, but the rest of your application offers very competitive features (professional career so far, secondary studies, etc.), there's no use wasting time working on your GRE. Bear in mind that putting together an application takes time and that you should manage your time as best as you can. No point in retaking GRE to go from 550 to 570 (verbal); concentrate instead on your personal state and your references. In short, retake GRE only if you've made a mistake, and your score was significantly lower than the one you did during your preparation.

You can check the websites of the graduate schools you are interested in attending to see if they may indicate what scores they may look for in an applicant.

All the best to you.

Question: Hi, I have a query regarding the GRE scores. I have given GRE twice.I would like to know about the university policy for taking the scores. Will they take the average of two scores or better of the two scores? Also the would take better of individual score or total score?

Thanks.

Answer: Hi,

Thank you for your question. Score reports for the computer based General tests are released to you and the institutions you designate, approximately 10-15 days after taking the test. The scores for paper based General and Subject tests are released approximately four to six weeks after taking the test.

If you take the test more than one time in a five year period previous scores will be reported along with your latest ones to the institutions you designate.

You may choose to have only the scores from either the General Test or the Subject Test reported but you may not choose to have only those scores from a specific test date reported.
